Björn Dahlem (*1974 Munich, Germany) gives form to cosmic phenomena such as galaxies or supernovas that lie beyond the imagination through his use of sculptures and installations. In his works, he poses the question of the connection between aesthetic imagery and scientific world views. He makes the inexplicable, the marvellous and the contradictory in the universe visible. Without taking scientific representation and accuracy too seriously, Dahlem develops highly complex sculptural structures from everyday materials and objects trouvés that refer to theories and models from the fields of astronomy, particle physics and quantum mechanics. Dahlem has been working as a professor for sculpture, object and installation at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2017.
His works have been shown at Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin (2004), Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2004), Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C. (2006), ZKM, Karlsruhe (2008), MoCA Taipei (2011), Berlinische Galerie – Museum für Moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst, Berlin (2015), Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2016) and ArtScience Museum Marina Bay Sands, Singapore (2017). His first solo show at Galerie Krinzinger, Der Wahrheitstraum (Palus Somini), took place in 2020.
