Erwin Wurm (*1954 in Bruck an der Mur, Austria) is a contemporary artist best known for his humorous, provocative, and often absurd sculptures and installations. His work explores themes of transformation, identity, and the relationship between body and space. Wurm is especially famous for his “One Minute Sculptures,” where participants are invited to interact with everyday objects to create temporary, performative sculptures. His art includes distorted forms and anthropomorphic elements, blending surrealism with a playful critique of modern life. Signature works of his include inflatable and deformed sculptures, as well as pieces that question societal norms around form, function, and the body.
Erwin Wurm has exhibited internationally in numerous prestigious institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, and the Vienna Secession. He has also participated in biennials, such as the Venice Biennale and Kassel’s Documenta. His last solo exhibition at Galerie Krinzinger, Hypnosis, was held in 2008.
